We are seeking a highly skilled HR Manager with a strong background in labor relations. This is an on-site position, based in Washington, DC, reporting to the Regional US Director and the Global VP HR. The candidate will manage one HR direct report and serve as the point of contact for People Operations, ensuring compliance and alignment with organizational goals for a growing workforce of approximately 150 employees.
Pay Range: $110,000-$125,000
Key Responsibilities:
- Labor Relations: Act as the primary liaison for union-related matters, ensuring smooth interactions and compliance with labor agreements and regulations.
- HR Compliance: Maintain compliance with local and federal employment laws, manage HR filings, and ensure accurate reporting.
- Employee Relations: Guide managers on employment matters, including recruiting, performance management, investigations, workplace accommodations, and terminations.
- HR Policies and Systems: Build and implement HR processes and systems, including HRIS tools, to streamline operations and use data to inform decisions.
- Training & Development: Lead training initiatives for employees and leaders to meet legal and organizational standards. Create programs for professional development, retention, and engagement.
- Recruiting, Onboarding, and Offboarding: Manage seamless employee onboarding, termination processes, and payroll oversight.
- Employee Engagement: Partner with site managers and chefs to foster a positive and inclusive work environment through engagement and team-building initiatives.
- Diversity & Inclusion: Champion D&I initiatives to create a welcoming and equitable workplace.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; SHRM/PHR certification preferred
- 4+ years of progressive HR experience, including union and labor relations expertise.
- Familiarity with HR policies, procedures, and compliance.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and union labor relations.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Hands-on and proactive, with the ability to adapt to new systems and processes.
- Experience in multi-site or international HR operations is a plus.
- Background in the food, beverage, or catering industry is highly desirable.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience scaling HR operations in a start-up or growth environment.
- Familiarity with payroll administration and strategic planning.
- Expertise in creating and managing HR policies and fostering cultural development.
