About the Role
The Director of Human Resources is the senior HR leader at Nine Orchard, responsible for overseeing all Human Resources functions across the hotel, including Food & Beverage operations. This role serves as a strategic partner to executive leadership while remaining deeply hands-on in the day-to-day HR operations of a luxury, high-touch environment.
The Director of HR will lead all aspects of people strategy, including labor relations, employee engagement, compliance, talent development, and culture. This individual will ensure alignment between hotel operations and MML’s broader HR vision while fostering a positive, high-performing workplace.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership
- Serve as a key member of the hotel’s executive leadership team
- Partner with General Manager and department leaders (including F&B) on workforce planning, organizational design, and talent strategy
- Align HR initiatives with business goals, guest experience, and operational excellence
Labor Relations & Employee Relations
- Oversee all employee relations matters across union and non-union teams
- Provide strategic guidance on performance management, investigations, and conflict resolution
- Support union relationships, including contract interpretation, grievance processes, and negotiations (as applicable)
- Ensure consistent and fair application of policies and procedures
Talent & Culture
- Champion a strong, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture
- Oversee onboarding, training, and leadership development initiatives
- Drive employee engagement, retention strategies, and recognition programs
- Act as a visible and approachable leader across all departments
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations
- Oversee audits, documentation, and HR best practices across all departments
- Partner with legal and corporate HR on risk mitigation and policy development
HR Operations & Systems
- Oversee HRIS systems (Paylocity preferred), ensuring data integrity and reporting accuracy
- Monitor key HR metrics including turnover, retention, and labor costs
- Partner with payroll and benefits teams to ensure seamless operations
Compensation, Benefits & Workforce Planning
- Support compensation planning and budgeting in partnership with leadership
- Oversee leave management, benefits administration, and workforce forecasting
- Provide insights and recommendations based on data and trends
Special Projects & Corporate Collaboration
- Partner with MML corporate HR on company-wide initiatives
- Lead or support new openings, transitions, and organizational changes
- Drive continuous improvement across HR processes and employee experience
What We’re Looking For
- 8–10+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in hospitality or luxury hotels
- Prior experience in an HR leadership role (Director or Senior HR Manager level)
- Strong knowledge of labor laws and HR compliance best practices
- Union experience highly preferred (but not required)
- Proven ability to influence and partner with senior leadership
- Hands-on leadership style with a strategic mindset
- HRIS experience required (Paylocity preferred)
- Spanish fluency is a plus
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- High level of discretion, professionalism, and emotional intelligence
Work Environment & Requirements
- On-site role within a luxury hotel environment
- Flexibility to support evenings, weekends, and on-call situations as needed
- Regular computer use; occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs
- Employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check
