Hybrid Human Resources Director – Downtown LA (Hotel/Hospitality) – $110k-$130k
A growing, privately held hospitality ownership and operating group in Downtown Los Angeles is looking for a senior HR leader to help bring a new independently owned boutique hotel to life. This individual will be instrumental in building the entire people function, from hiring and onboarding to compliance, training, and culture, ensuring the hotel is fully prepared to open and positioned for long-term success.
The ideal candidate is someone who has supported a hotel opening firsthand and thrives in build-mode environments. This is a highly hands-on role for someone who enjoys creating structure, solving problems in real time, and partnering closely with leadership to turn strategy into action under tight timelines.
Since this is a brand new position, candidates must have experience within the hospitality industry in a similar type of position.
Responsibilities:
- 🏨 Lead end-to-end HR strategy and execution for the hotel pre-opening, launch, and early stabilization period.
- 🧩 Build core HR infrastructure including policies, workflows, SOPs, and compliance frameworks from the ground up.
- 💻 Select, implement, and manage recruiting and HR technology platforms to support high-volume hiring and employee data management.
- 👥 Partner with leadership to develop org structure, staffing plans, job architecture, and compensation strategy.
- 🔎 Own full lifecycle recruiting across all hotel departments, including leadership and hourly teams.
- ⚡ Drive large-scale hiring initiatives to onboard over 125 employees within aggressive pre-opening timelines.
- 🌐 Manage external recruiting partners, community outreach, hiring events, and vendor relationships.
- 🎓 Design and execute onboarding, orientation, and multi-department training programs through opening and early operations.
- 📜 Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws, including California-specific employment requirements.
- 🦺 Lead workplace safety programs, incident reporting, and OSHA-aligned practices.
- 💬 Build employee relations programs, engagement initiatives, and communication channels across the property.
- 📊 Monitor workforce metrics (hiring progress, retention, training effectiveness) and transition HR from pre-opening build mode to steady-state operations.
Qualifications:
- 🏨 5+ years of progressive HR experience within hospitality or hotel environments.
- 👔 Prior HR leadership experience required.
- 🚀 Direct participation in at least one hotel opening or major launch cycle strongly preferred.
- 🧠 Proven ability to build recruiting, onboarding, and training infrastructure from scratch.
- ⚡ Demonstrated success managing large-scale, high-urgency hiring initiatives.
- ⚖️ Strong working knowledge of California labor and employment regulations.
- 👥 Experience supporting both senior leadership teams and high-volume hourly workforces.
- ⏱️ Ability to work independently, prioritize quickly, and execute against aggressive timelines.
Additional Details:
- Standard Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. schedule.
- The role has the flexibility to work one day per week from home.
