Well-established national law firm is seeking a Human Resources Director to join its firmwide management team. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the HR department, ensuring smooth execution of key functions such as staff recruitment, performance management, payroll administration, compliance, and HR technology management.
Reporting to the COO, this position is based in the firm’s Los Angeles office and will oversee a small team. Successful candidate will serve as a business partner, and driver of change management, and organizational development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily HR operations, managing team workflow and supervising department staff.
- Lead all aspects of employee lifecycle including talent acquisition, onboarding, integration and retention of talent, employee relations, performance evaluations, compensation administration, performance improvement plans, department engagement, and terminations.
- Partner with hiring managers and attorneys to lead performance management initiatives, including evaluations, training, and professional development.
- Oversee benefits programs and facilitate LOA’s, open enrollment, benefit deductions, compliance, reports and more.
- Strategize with hiring managers to ensure adequate headcount, resources and enhance talent acquisition, retention, and development strategies.
- Manage the firm’s payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Research and analyze HR trends and workforce data to support strategic decision-making.
- Oversee HRIS and document management systems, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
- Respond to federal and state employment inquiries, including unemployment claims and benefit audits.
- Stay informed on industry best practices, legal updates, and emerging HR technologies, advising leadership on necessary changes.
Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum 7 years of HR management experience in a law firm.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Strong knowledge of employment laws, compliance regulations, and HR best practices.
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and drive HR initiatives effectively.
