Overview
This is a hybrid role. 2 days remote (Monday, Friday) and 3 days onsite (Tuesday-Thursday)
The Human Resources Specialist performs essential HR functions including processing of new hire I-9s, unemployment claims, teammate status changes, policy development and administration, and employee relations. The Human Resources Specialist collaborates often with the HR Business Partners, broader HR department, Operations, and Legal teams.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for approval of teammate status changes through the workflow system, including new hires, changes, terminations, and system access requests
- Coordinates the new hire onboarding process including pre-start communications, validating information, and I-9 processing and reverification.
- Responds to unemployment claims through our outside vendor, including setting up representation for hearings
- Assists HR Business Partners in responding to teammate relations calls, including:
- Independently conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations performing root cause analysis, mitigating risk, and developing plans that support positive outcomes in line with company values
- Provides coaching and counseling to managers and teammates to resolve teammate relations issues and conflict and to minimize CubeSmart’s legal risk in employment matters
- Assists in managing the Policy and Procedure Manual (PPM) including updating policies, writing new policies, and educating teammates on interpretation of policies
- Informs and advises teammates of the CubeSmart PPM
- Manages AskHR inbox, responding to teammate questions or inquiries
- Manages required labor law poster vendor to ensure compliance with federal and state laws
- Investigates background screening reports, proposing approval or denial of employment
- Serves as back up for managing teammate communications for store disposition process including drafting communication plans, talking points for manager, and written communications for teammates
- Assists the HR Department in carrying out various human resource programs
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field
- Two to four years of experience in Human Resources, or any similar combination of education and experience
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, including ability to collaborate, resolve conflicts, and work in a team-based environment
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills ensuring the message is clear and concise
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to seek out underlying assumptions through probing, questioning, and listening
- Prior experience developing and administering policies
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as experience working with HRIS systems
- Attention to detail achieving thoroughness and accuracy in work products
- Results-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize activities around established goals
- Ability to work independently while working effectively as part of a team
