The HR Generalist - Employee Relations and Communications supports day-to-day human resources operations in a fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment. This role works closely with leadership, employees, and HR team members to ensure compliance with labor laws, administer HR programs, and foster a positive workplace culture. The HR Generalist of Employee Relations and Communication will primarily be responsible for driving company culture; developing tools and resources to ensure our workforce has a “voice”, and overall communications. Additionally, this role will provide support for recruitment, learning and development, performance management, and benefits administration when needed.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruitment & Onboarding
- Partner with hiring managers to develop job postings and recruitment strategies for production and salaried positions.
- Source, screen, and interview candidates; coordinate offers and pre-employment requirements.
- Facilitate onboarding process, including new hire orientation and documentation compliance.
2. Employee Relations and Committee Administrator
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries and workplace concerns.
- Facilitate meetings and communications for Employee Committees (Safety, Quality, Benefits, Scheduling, Career Development, Employee Engagement, etc.)
- Schedule and organize council or committee meetings, prepare agendas, and ensure discussions stay on track.
- Share meeting notes, decisions, and action items with both members and relevant management.
- Coordinate Employee Input by collecting feedback, suggestions, and concerns from employees for council consideration.
- Ensure diverse voices are heard by promoting participation across departments, shifts, and locations.
- Track and Report Progress by maintaining records of initiatives, recommendations, and follow-up actions.
- Provide regular progress updates to leadership and the employee body to show impact and accountability.
- Coach supervisors on conflict resolution, policy interpretation, and disciplinary actions.
- Conduct workplace investigations and recommend corrective actions when needed.
3. HR Administration & Compliance
- Maintain personnel records in compliance with federal, state, and company policies.
- Support compliance with OSHA, FMLA, EEO, ADA, and other applicable laws/regulations.
- Assist with audits, reporting, and maintaining confidentiality of HR information.
4. Performance Management & Training
- Support annual performance review process.
- Support career development initiatives and identify training needs.
- Maintain training records for safety and compliance programs.
5. Benefits & Payroll Support
- Administer benefits enrollment and respond to employee benefit questions.
- Coordinate with payroll to ensure accurate employee records and pay data.
6. Internal Communications
- Develop and distribute employee communications, such as newsletters, policy updates, and event announcements.
- Coordinate town halls, employee meetings, and recognition events.
- Ensure consistent messaging and branding across internal HR communications.
- Coordinate with and Support IT in maintaining bulletin boards, digital signage, and other workplace communication channels
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Communications, Psychology, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years of HR experience, ideally in manufacturing or automotive industry; experience with employee relations and communications highly preferred.
- Certifications: PHR or SHRM-CP preferred, not required.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Proficient in MS Office, HRIS systems, and Oracle HCM LMS.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with regular presence on the production floor.
- May require occasional travel to other facilities, job fairs, or training events.
- 8-hour work schedule, 5 days a week, with schedule flexibility requirement for shift support coverage.
- Operation runs in some capacity 24 hours, 7 days/wk.
