About Opportunity
Paulson-Cheek Mechanical (PCM) is seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead and scale our HR function in alignment with our continued growth across the Southeast. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for building, optimizing, and executing HR strategy while maintaining a strong, compliant, and performance-driven culture.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this individual will serve as a strategic partner and hands-on leader (player/coach), overseeing a 5-person HR team and driving initiatives across talent, compliance, employee experience, and organizational development.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, aligning HR strategy with business objectives and growth initiatives
- Lead the evolution of HR infrastructure, policies, and programs to support a scaling organization
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, compliance, and employee engagement
HR Operations & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including EEOC, OSHA, FMLA, ADA, and related regulations
- Oversee and optimize payroll operations (ADP HRIS) to ensure accuracy and efficiency
- Maintain and continuously improve the employee handbook, policies, and procedures
Talent & Employee Experience
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a seamless and professional employee lifecycle experience
- Design and implement performance management programs, including annual review processes
- Lead employee relations efforts, including investigations, conflict resolution, and terminations
Benefits & Administration Programs
- Administer and manage employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and workers’ compensation
- Evaluate and manage leave of absence programs, including FMLA and ADA accommodations
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing HR team
- Foster a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and continuous improvement
Culture & Engagement
- Drive initiatives that reinforce PCM’s culture and employee engagement
- Lead company-wide events and programs (e.g., holiday events, internal initiatives)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field required
- 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably within construction, mechanical, or service-based industries
- Strong working knowledge of ADP payroll and HRIS systems
- Demonstrated experience in multi-state compliance and employment law
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred
- Proven ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment
- Full-time, on-site role (Monday–Friday) based at PCM’s headquarters in Norcross, GA
