We are seeking an accomplished Director of Human Resources to drive Block’s people strategy and serve as a key advisor to executive leadership. This senior role will shape how we attract, develop, engage, and retain the professionals who advance our mission every day. The Director will design and implement a scalable HR infrastructure that strengthens workforce performance and positions Block at the forefront of the human services sector.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Architect and execute a comprehensive HR strategy aligned with Block’s growth, programmatic needs, and long-term sustainability.
- Elevate full life cycle recruitment, building strong and consistent talent pipelines across direct support, clinical, and administrative roles.
- Advance workforce planning and retention strategies to strengthen organizational stability.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on workforce risk, employee relations, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.
- Ensure rigorous compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations within a highly regulated human services environment.
- Modernize HR systems, policies, and reporting frameworks to support data-informed decision-making.
- Oversee benefits administration, leave management, workers’ compensation, unemployment, and related programs with fiscal and operational oversight.
- Lead and develop the HR team, setting clear standards for responsiveness, professionalism, and service.
Initial Priorities (First 6 Months)
- Conduct a strategic assessment of recruitment, compliance, and HR operations.
- Establish workforce metrics and reporting tools that inform executive decision-making.
- Identify actionable opportunities to improve employee engagement and communication across programs.
- Implement focused enhancements.
- Strengthen hiring workflows and onboarding practices to improve efficiency and candidate experience.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including senior-level responsibility.
- Demonstrated success leading full life cycle recruitment and building scalable talent systems.
- Deep knowledge of employment law, regulatory compliance, and HR risk management.
- Experience managing and developing HR teams in complex organizations.
- Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or human services environments preferred.
- Union experience is welcomed but not required.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or SHRM/PHR certification preferred
