The Human Resources Director is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, implementing, directing, and evaluating the human resource function of the long-term care facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws while supporting a positive workplace culture that promotes quality resident care.

Key Responsibilities
- Recruitment & Staffing
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract qualified clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Oversee hiring processes for nurses, CNAs, therapists, dietary, housekeeping, and administrative staff.
- Coordinate onboarding and orientation programs.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Employee Relations
- Serve as a trusted advisor to management and staff.
- Investigate employee complaints and workplace concerns.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and corrective action processes.
- Promote employee engagement and retention initiatives.
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure compliance with employment laws including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, OSHA, and state labor regulations.
- Maintain personnel files and documentation in accordance with healthcare regulations.
- Support facility compliance with CMS and state survey requirements.
- Develop and update HR policies and procedures.
- Compensation & Benefits Administration
- Administer employee compensation programs.
- Manage employee benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, PTO, and leave programs.
- Conduct wage and salary surveys to ensure competitive pay practices.
- Training & Development
- Coordinate mandatory in-service training and continuing education.
- Ensure compliance with state-mandated training requirements for long-term care staff.
- Support leadership development and succession planning.
- Payroll & HRIS Oversight
- Oversee payroll processing and timekeeping systems.
- Maintain HRIS systems and employee records.
- Generate HR reports for leadership and regulatory agencies.
- Risk Management & Workplace Safety
- Support workplace safety initiatives in collaboration with nursing leadership.
- Manage workers’ compensation claims.
- Assist in developing infection control and emergency preparedness policies.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Experience:
- 3–5+ years of progressive HR experience.
- Experience in healthcare, preferably in long-term care, skilled nursing, or assisted living settings.
- Experience with union environments (if applicable) preferred.
Certifications (Preferred):
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP
- PHR or SPHR
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of employment law and healthcare regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems.
