We’re looking for a hands-on, sharp HR Manager to lead U.S. People Operations for a global fast-moving professional services firm. This is a highly trusted role with real ownership from day one, perfect for someone who enjoys being close to the business, solving problems, and building strong foundations.
You’ll partner closely with our UK-based HR lead and act as the operational HR lead for the U.S. team. This role is based in NYC with a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office), and you’ll play a key role in shaping how our people experience work here.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead day-to-day U.S. People Operations: payroll, benefits, compliance, and employee lifecycle processes
- Own and manage benefits administration (medical, FSA, HSA, etc.) and partner with their 401(k) administrator
- Ensure compliance with U.S. employment laws and HR best practices
- Manage and develop a small HR team (1–2 direct reports)
- Partner with leadership on HR operations, employee experience, and culture initiatives
- Review, update, and help implement U.S. HR policies and the employee handbook
- Help connect and optimize recently implemented HR tools and systems
- Act as a trusted, approachable point of contact for employees and managers
- Roll up your sleeves and lead operational improvements immediately
Required experience:
- 5+ years of HR experience, ideally in professional services, consulting, law firms, or similar business environments
- Strong operational HR background (payroll, benefits, compliance are must-haves)
- Experience working in smaller, close-knit teams or a desire to move away from highly siloed large organizations
- Exposure to HR systems such as ADP and HiBob (or similar platforms)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Someone proactive, trusted, and comfortable owning problems end-to-end
- Experience with 401(k) administration is a plus (but not required)
Location: New York City (3 days/week in-office)
Base Salary: $140,000–$165,000 + discretionary bonus
Reports to: Global Head of HR / People
