Role Summary
Flamingo Estate is seeking an experienced, bilingual, HR Manager to own the
operational and administrative foundation of our people function as we continue to
grow. This role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of HR operations —
including payroll, benefits, compliance, and contractor management — while also
helping establish clear policies, procedures, and reporting structures that support a
healthy, high-performing workplace.
This is a hands-on role for someone who has worked within smaller, growing
companies and understands how to build HR systems thoughtfully — balancing
structure, care, and culture. The ideal candidate deeply knowledgeable in California
labor law, comfortable operating independently, and aligned with Flamingo Estate’s
values of generosity, integrity, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
HR Operations & Compliance
● Manage payroll administration and coordination across full-time employees and
contract staff.
● Oversee benefits administration, including healthcare plans, 401(k), and annual
enrollments.
● Ensure compliance with California labor laws and employment regulations.
● Maintain accurate employee records, contracts, and HR documentation.
● Manage onboarding and offboarding processes for employees and contractors.
● Serve as the point of contact for HR systems, vendors, and external partners.
Policies, Procedures & People Infrastructure
● Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures appropriate for a
growing organization.
● Ensure policies are clear, accessible, and aligned with Flamingo Estate’s culture.
● Support leadership in establishing fair, consistent people practices across
teams.
● Maintain employee handbook and internal documentation as the company
evolves.
Employee Relations & Reporting
● Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees on HR-related questions,
concerns, and reporting.
● Support leadership in handling sensitive employee matters with care,
confidentiality, and professionalism.
● Help manage performance-related processes, documentation, and best
practices.
● Ensure appropriate processes are in place for issue escalation, investigation,
and resolution.
People Support & Growth
● Partner with leadership on workforce planning and organizational needs.
● Support where necessary on compensation planning, role leveling, and internal
promotions.
● Assist with training coordination, compliance training, and HR-related education
as needed.
● Contribute to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and values-driven workplace.
Qualifications & Experience
● Bilingual
● 5+ years of HR experience, ideally within small to mid-sized companies (40–100
employees).
● Strong working knowledge of California labor laws and HR compliance
requirements.
● Experience managing payroll, benefits, 401(k), and contractor vs. employee
classification.
● Hands-on experience building or refining HR policies, procedures, and
infrastructure.
● Excellent judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive matters
thoughtfully.
● Strong organizational and communication skills.
● Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with leadership.
● Experience in creative, consumer, or lifestyle-driven environments is a plus.
