Summary
The People & Culture Generalist administers key HR operations with a focus on payroll, benefits, and compliance. Partnering with the Senior Director of People & Culture, the Generalist maintains data integrity, streamlines processes, and enhances the overall employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Administers health and welfare benefits, including enrollments, changes, and terminations. Educates employees on all benefits programs to improve understanding and engagement.
- Provides recruitment support in collaboration with the People & Culture Coordinator during high-volume hiring periods.
- Assists the Senior Director of People & Culture with the development and enhancement of employee programs and initiatives.
- Collaborates with the Museum’s safety personnel and Senior Director of People & Culture to administer the workers’ compensation program, ensuring timely reporting, follow-up, and OSHA recordkeeping compliance.
- Maintains accurate employee records by processing all HRIS transactions throughout the employee life cycle, including hires, position and salary changes, and separations.
- Assists with annual audits of workers’ compensation and the retirement plan.
- Processes semi-monthly payroll and manages all related functions, including timesheet verification, report preparation, issue resolution, and employee inquiries.
- Administers payroll data, including garnishments, paid time off, benefits deductions, and other authorized withholdings.
- Manages monthly benefits invoicing and reconciliation to ensure accuracy and timely payment of premiums. Partners with Finance and benefits providers to resolve discrepancies and maintain up-to-date records.
- Responds to HR inquiries requiring advanced knowledge of policies, payroll, or benefits with professionalism and discretion.
- Manages employment verification requests in compliance with Museum policy.
- Maintains and analyzes HR data to produce regular and ad hoc reports on headcount, payroll, benefits, and other workforce metrics to support data-driven decision-making.
- Assists with employee relations documentation and intake, ensuring proper recordkeeping and coordination with the Senior Director of People & Culture.
- Prepares compliance reports and supporting documentation for the annual EEO-1 and OSHA 300A filings.
- Tracks completion of required safety and compliance training for all applicable departments and coordinates updates with the People & Culture Coordinator.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least three (3) years of experience in a similar capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of employment law and regulations, benefits administration, payroll processing, and employee relations.
- Familiarity with Applicant Tracking and HRIS systems required (Paylocity preferred).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with excellent follow-through and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative and team-oriented; contributes to a positive and inclusive workplace culture that reflects the Museum’s mission and values.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
