G&W Equipment is seeking a hands-on Director of Human Resources to lead HR for a growing, multi-location organization of approximately 350 employees in NC, SC and GA. This role partners closely with leadership and is responsible for both strategy and day-to-day execution across all HR functions. This is an onsite position with travel to branch locations as needed.
This is a player-coach leadership role, ideal for someone with a strong HR Generalist background who is a
practical, solutions-oriented leader who thrives in managing multiple priorities and staying involved in the details.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary resource for employee relations, including investigations, performance management, and conflict resolution
- Coach managers and ensure consistent application of policies across multiple locations
- Manage compensation programs and oversee benefits administration (self-insured experience preferred)
- Provide oversight and support for payroll processes to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Lead recruiting strategy, workforce planning, and onboarding processes
- Manage and optimize HRIS systems (UKG preferred), reporting, and key metrics
- Partner with Safety on OSHA, DOT, and regulatory compliance and support contractor compliance platforms, including Avetta and ISNetworld (ISN)
- Oversee workers’ compensation programs, including claims management and return-to-work efforts
- Lead and develop a 6-person HR team while improving processes and remaining active in daily HR operations
- Travel up to 25% to support branch locations across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
Qualifications
- Prefer 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including leadership
- Strong HR Generalist background with hands-on
- Experience with HRIS systems and reporting (UKG and Jazz preferred)
- Proven experience and working knowledge of employee relations, investigations, compensation, benefits administration, payroll, FMLA, talent development and management, and workers’ compensation / safety
- Experience supporting a multi-location, multi-state workforce
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
