Director of Human Resources

Overview
Our client is a growing communications agency seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to lead people strategy, talent development, and employee experience. This role is both strategic and hands-on, supporting a fast-paced, collaborative environment across communications teams.
The Director of HR will partner closely with leadership and employees to foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace where people feel supported, engaged, and motivated to grow.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Experience & Engagement
- Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers, providing guidance and support on people-related topics
- Promote open communication and strong working relationships across teams
- Support managers in building engaged, motivated, and high-performing teams
- Partner with leadership to strengthen employee engagement, retention, and satisfaction
- Ensure consistent, people-centered HR practices across the agency
- Support employees through onboarding, role transitions, and career growth
People & Talent Strategy
- Partner with executive leadership to develop and execute people strategies aligned with agency growth
- Lead workforce planning, organizational design, and succession planning
- Provide insight to leadership on employee engagement, morale, and organizational health
Recruiting & Talent Development
- Oversee full-cycle recruiting for communications, marketing, creative, digital, and leadership roles
- Build onboarding experiences that help employees ramp quickly and feel connected
- Design learning, coaching, and career development programs that support long-term growth
Culture, Engagement & DEI
- Champion a collaborative, inclusive, and values-driven agency culture
- Lead diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across hiring, development, and advancement
- Develop feedback, recognition, and engagement programs that reinforce performance and belonging
Performance & Growth
- Design and manage performance management and review processes
- Partner with leadership on career paths, promotions, and growth planning
- Support managers in developing and retaining top talent
Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive HR experience with a strong focus on people strategy and employee experience
- Experience in a communications agency, professional services, or creative environment preferred
- Strong relationship-building, coaching, and leadership skills
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on support
- Bachelor’s degree required; HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR) a plus
