HR / Payroll Division Director
📍 Bowie or Rockville, MD | 🏢 In-Office (Mon–Fri)
💰 $120,000 – $140,000 + bonus
**Must be local to Bowie or Rockville MD and able to be in the office 5x a week, international or relocation candidates are not being considered**
We’re seeking an experienced HR / Payroll Division Director to lead and scale a growing, client-facing function. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-growing environment and enjoys both execution and team building. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to multiple client organizations while owning full-cycle payroll, end-to-end HR operations, benefits administration, and divisional growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee full employee lifecycle management for multiple client organizations
• Process high-volume, multi-state payroll for 6–8 clients (salaried & hourly)
• Ensure compliance with payroll laws, tax regulations, audits, and reporting requirements
• Serve as the primary client-facing contact; manage expectations and billable work
• Lead benefits administration including onboarding, open enrollment, 401(k), and vendor coordination
• Build, lead, and scale the HR / Payroll division
• Partner with internal leadership to drive operational excellence and client satisfaction
• Maintain accurate documentation, controls, and reporting across all client accounts
Required Qualifications
• 10+ years of HR and payroll experience strongly preferred
• Proven experience with full-cycle, multi-state payroll in a client-facing or billable environment
• Strong HR background including benefits administration and employee lifecycle management
• Solid understanding of payroll compliance, tax regulations, and labor laws
• Experience with, Quickbooks, ADP and/or Paycom
• Strong Excel skills
• Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to scale teams and processes
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple clients simultaneously
• Professional, polished communicator with strong client presence
