HR Generalist (Stand‑Alone HR Role)
Location: Manhattan, NY (2 days onsite / 3 days remote)
Compensation: Up to $85,000
About the Role
Our client is seeking a proactive and resourceful HR Generalist who can operate in a stand‑alone HR capacity, supporting all day‑to‑day HR functions for a small but growing organization. This individual will manage the full employee lifecycle, ensure compliance, strengthen HR processes, and serve as the primary point of contact for employees and leadership. Ideal candidates enjoy working autonomously, wearing many hats, and building HR structure in environments that may still be evolving.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Manage full-cycle recruiting, including drafting job descriptions, posting roles, screening resumes, and coordinating interviews.
- Lead new‑hire onboarding, ensuring a smooth and positive experience for incoming employees.
Employee Relations & Culture
- Act as the primary HR point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and policy clarifications.
- Provide guidance to managers on employee relations, performance concerns, and workplace best practices.
Benefits & HR Administration
- Administer employee benefits and serve as the liaison with insurance and benefits vendors.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date personnel records and HR files.
- Support payroll with timely updates regarding PTO, leaves, and other employee changes.
Compliance & Policy
- Ensure organizational HR practices align with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain and update company HR policies, handbooks, and compliance documents.
Performance & Development
- Coordinate performance review cycles, tracking goals and documentation.
- Support managers with performance improvement plans when necessary.
HR Operations
- Prepare HR reports as needed (headcount, turnover, compliance tracking).
- Identify opportunities to streamline HR processes and implement scalable solutions.
- Serve as the sole HR representative, partnering closely with leadership to ensure HR needs are met across the business.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3–5 years of HR Generalist experience, preferably including stand‑alone HR responsibility.
- Strong understanding of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and adapt quickly in a fast‑paced environment.
Work Schedule & Environment
- 2 days onsite in Manhattan; remaining days remote.
