Job Title: Director of Human Resources
Location: Des Plaines, IL (4 days a week)
Pay: $140-160k

The Opportunity
Our client is a growing financial services company is seeking its first-ever Director of Human Resources to build and lead the HR function from the ground up. This is a highly impactful, sole contributor role reporting directly to the President. They are looking for an HR leader who thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the sole HR leader for the organization, responsible for building scalable HR infrastructure
- Lead full-cycle recruitment and onboarding to attract and retain diverse, high-quality talent
- Champion a positive workplace culture through engagement initiatives, employee relations, and retention strategies
- Oversee benefits administration, compensation planning, and compliance with all applicable employment laws
- Develop and implement training and development programs to support growth, performance, and succession planning
- Maintain and improve HR systems, processes, and records
- Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on all people-related matters
What You Bring
Must-Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred but not required)
- 7–10+ years of progressive HR experience, with demonstrated ownership of HR functions
- Proven ability to operate independently and build HR infrastructure from scratch
- Experience working in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments
- Familiarity with Paylocity or similar HRIS platforms
- High level of professionalism and polish, especially when interacting with executive leadership
- Hands-on HR leader ready to establish systems, policies, and culture
- Excited by the challenge of being the first HR hire
- Solutions-oriented, resourceful, and organized
- Strong communicator with a collaborative, people-first mindset
Nice-to-Haves
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification
- Background in banking or financial services (not required)
