A fast-growing, people-first building construction and development company is seeking its first Director of Human Resources. Based near Union Station in downtown Chicago, this role offers the rare opportunity to design and scale the HR function from the ground up while partnering with executives to shape a culture of innovation, accountability, and growth.

What You’ll Do
- Lead HR Strategy – Develop and implement people strategies aligned with business growth and culture goals.
- Shape Talent Acquisition – Build pipelines of skilled construction professionals and leadership talent across the U.S.
- Drive Engagement – Launch initiatives that boost retention, DEI, and employee experience.
- Modernize HR Systems – Implement and optimize HRIS, ATS, and workforce analytics tools.
- Partner with Executives – Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO, COO, and project leadership teams.
- Develop Leaders – Build training, career pathing, and mentoring programs for future talent.
- Oversee Total Rewards – Manage compensation, payroll alignment, and benefits strategy.
What You Bring
- 10+ years of HR experience, with 5+ in a leadership role.
- Background in construction, engineering, or federal contracting industries.
- Proven success leading recruiting, compliance, employee relations, and benefits.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with a “builder’s mindset.”
- Preferred: SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or advanced degree; experience with M&A or union/non-union environments.
