Position Overview
The Director of Human Resources serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and provides strategic and operational leadership for all HR functions across our campus.
This role partners closely with the CEO, senior leaders, department directors, and the Board (as appropriate) to ensure Shorehaven attracts, develops, and retains a high-performing workforce aligned with our mission and values.
The ideal candidate is both a strategic thinker and a hands-on leader — someone who can shape long-term workforce strategy while supporting daily operational needs in a highly regulated healthcare environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Organizational Development
- Align HR strategy with Shorehaven’s mission and long-term strategic plan
- Advise executive leadership on workforce planning, succession planning, and culture development
- Support leadership development and organizational sustainability initiatives
Talent Acquisition, Engagement & Retention
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies across all levels of care
- Develop innovative staffing solutions in response to healthcare workforce challenges
- Promote employee engagement, recognition, and inclusive employment practices
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Guide leaders in coaching, performance management, and corrective action processes
- Lead employee relations investigations and conflict resolution efforts
- Ensure consistent and fair application of policies and procedures
Compliance, Risk & Regulatory Support
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, OSHA, etc.)
- Maintain HR policies, handbook, and procedures
- Support regulatory readiness and survey preparedness, particularly within Skilled Nursing
- Manage workers’ compensation and employment-related risk mitigation
Compensation, Benefits & HR Operations
- Oversee compensation strategy and benefit programs aligned with nonprofit values and market competitiveness
- Supervise payroll, benefits administration, HRIS, and leave management
- Analyze HR metrics and workforce data to inform leadership decisions
- Contribute to annual staffing and labor budget planning
Training & Culture Building
- Lead orientation, mandatory training, and ongoing development programs
- Support supervisory and leadership training initiatives
- Foster a learning culture that promotes professional growth and quality outcomes
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 5–7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience
- Experience in senior living, healthcare, long-term care, or another highly regulated environment
- Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices
- Demonstrated ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on operational execution
Preferred
- Master’s degree and/or HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR, SPHR)
- Experience in a nonprofit or CCRC environment
- Experience supporting multi-department or campus-based operations
