Our non-profit client in Staten Island is seeking an HR Director to lead and evolve their people strategy in alignment with our mission and organizational goals. This role oversees the full HR function and partners closely with senior leadership to ensure our policies, programs, and practices support a strong, compliant, and values-driven workplace. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for an HR professional who balances strategy with execution and is passionate about building inclusive, high-performing teams.
HR Leadership & Compliance
- Lead and develop the HR function, including policies, programs, and staff, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Oversee HR programs such as compensation, benefits, leave administration, employee relations, investigations, performance management, health and safety, and training & development
- Regularly review and update policies and practices to align with legal requirements and organizational values
Talent & Workforce Strategy
- Partner with senior leadership to align staffing, recruiting, and retention strategies with long-term organizational goals
- Assess the impact of growth initiatives, new programs, and regulatory changes on workforce planning and talent needs
- Develop and implement effective hiring and talent management practices
Employee Lifecycle Management
- Oversee all stages of the employee lifecycle, from onboarding through exit
- Collaborate with leaders to design onboarding experiences that support engagement, compliance, and cultural integration
- Manage performance evaluation processes and employee transitions, including offboarding
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible HR management experience
- SHRM certification required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong commitment to social, economic, and community justice, with alignment to a mission-driven organization
- Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities with strong follow-through
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across diverse teams and identities
- Comfortable working independently while also partnering closely with leadership and cross-functional teams
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Experience
- Master’s degree
- 10+ years of experience in human resource management
- Prior experience in the nonprofit sector
- Exposure to organizing, advocacy, or working alongside community-focused initiatives
