Status: 4-month contract (up to 20 hours/week)
Position Summary:
The Temporary Human Resources Director will provide leadership and expert oversight to the HR and Culture Team during a maternity leave coverage period. This part-time role (up to 20 hours per week) focuses on guiding the HR team, ensuring continuity of operations, and serving as a seasoned HR resource for complex issues. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, capable of maintaining HR excellence across the employee lifecycle while supporting a fast-growing, high-volume staffing organization where priorities move quickly and flexibility is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day oversight and guidance to the Human Resources and Culture Team, ensuring continuity of operations and alignment with organizational values.
- Serve as the senior HR subject-matter expert, offering direction on HR best practices, policy interpretation, and sensitive or complex matters.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; oversee necessary reporting and ensure adherence to internal policies.
- Support employee relations efforts, including leading or advising on investigations, resolving conflict, and recommending risk-mitigating solutions.
- Coach and support managers in performance management, employee engagement, corrective action, and employee development practices.
- Provide expert-level support to employees and managers regarding benefits, policies, processes, and general HR inquiries.
- Oversee execution of ongoing HR processes and events such as onboarding, performance cycles, benefits activities, wellness initiatives, and company-wide communications.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to maintain and enhance employee experience, engagement, and recognition programs.
- Monitor HR trends, best practices, and regulatory updates to ensure compliance and proactive adaptation.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance HR efficiency, service delivery, and team effectiveness.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned that align with the scope of the EVP of People Operations.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required
- Advanced degree (e.g., MBA or MS in HR/Organizational Development) preferred
- HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR) preferred
Skills & Qualifications
- 8–15+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3–5+ years in a senior HR leadership role (HR Director, Senior HR Manager, Head of HR, etc.)
- Proven experience overseeing HR operations in fast-growing, fast-paced, or high-volume environments; staffing or similar industries strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience managing, coaching, or mentoring HR team members
- Strong track record with employee relations, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and risk mitigation
- Experience maintaining federal and multi-state employment law compliance
- Background supporting organizations during transitional periods (e.g., leave coverage, rapid scaling, reorganization)
- Experience with Paylocity is preferred
