Our client, a luxury apparel brand is seeking a Director of Human Resources to join their New York City office. The Director of Human Resources oversees all aspects of the human resources function, including the full employee lifecycle. This role serves as the primary point of contact for both employees and managers, driving the execution of HR programs, policies, and strategic initiatives across the organization.
Principal Accountabilities
- Partner with leadership to design and implement an HR strategy that meets business objectives while upholding organizational values and culture.
- Execute, track, and continually enhance HR processes throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, performance management, compensation and benefits, and employee development.
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with employees to foster engagement. Work closely with management to create and implement programs that boost motivation, retention, and overall productivity.
- Lead the full recruitment process by working with hiring managers to determine staffing needs, support job postings, interview candidates, and coordinate selection activities.
- Manage onboarding activities such as background checks, contracts, and orientation, as well as offboarding tasks including exit interviews and required administrative steps.
- Administer the performance management cycle by assisting leaders with goal-setting, performance evaluations, and addressing performance-related issues.
- Oversee compensation and benefits programs, monitor market trends, and recommend improvements aligned with company culture.
- Manage payroll and all employee benefit plans (medical, dental, vision, disability programs, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and transit benefits) and support enrollment activities.
- Identify organizational training needs, coordinate learning initiatives, and support workforce development.
- Ensure all HR policies and organizational procedures are current, compliant with legal requirements, and consistently applied. Provide guidance on compliance-related matters.
- Maintain accurate employee data, HR systems, and personnel files. Prepare HR reports and evaluate related metrics.
- Offer coaching and support to managers on conflict resolution. Lead the resolution of employee relations issues and grievances as they occur.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline ideal.
- Advanced degrees or HR certifications (e.g., PHR, SPHR) are beneficial or may be preferred.
- 7–10 years of progressive HR experience, including significant generalist background; minimum of 3 years in a comparable role.
- Strong understanding of HR principles, practices, and employment laws.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in technology tools including Microsoft Office (Word, advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with SAP is an asset.
This role is based in NYC and is 4 days onsite.
