Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Human Resources Director to lead all aspects of our HR function and drive organizational success through people. This position oversees a team of 15 HR team members and is responsible for Employee Relations, Legal Compliance, HR Administration, Payroll, Recruiting, and Employee Programs.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment, balancing strategic initiatives with daily operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of HR professionals supporting production, design, sales, and administrative operations across multiple sites.
- Partner with executive leadership to align HR strategies with business goals and operational needs.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement HR programs that enhance employee engagement, retention, and career growth.
Employee Relations
- Oversee all employee relations matters, ensuring fair and consistent practices across the organization.
- Advise managers and supervisors on performance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes.
- Conduct and oversee workplace investigations with professionalism and confidentiality.
- Support organizational change management, restructuring, and communications.
Recruiting & Talent Acquisition
- Oversee full-cycle recruiting efforts across production, technical, and professional roles.
- Partner with department leaders to forecast hiring needs and develop workforce plans.
- Build and maintain relationships with staffing agencies, schools, and industry networks to attract top talent.
- Implement strategies that strengthen the company’s employment brand and candidate experience.
Employee Programs & Development
- Design and manage employee programs that support engagement, recognition, and professional development.
- Lead initiatives that promote career growth, internal mobility, and leadership development.
- Collaborate with managers to identify skill gaps and implement targeted training programs.
- Develop employee communication and feedback channels that reinforce company values and culture.
Legal Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws (EEO, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA, etc.).
- Maintain and update HR policies and procedures in accordance with legal requirements and industry best practices.
- Oversee HR audits, recordkeeping, and reporting to minimize risk.
- Stay current on labor law changes impacting the printing and manufacturing industry.
HR Administration & Payroll
- Oversee HR operations, HRIS, and personnel record management.
- Direct accurate and timely payroll processing for both hourly and salaried employees.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure payroll accuracy, benefits reconciliation, and compliance reporting.
- Identify opportunities to streamline HR processes and improve administrative efficiency.
Safety Program & Workers’ Compensation / LOA
- Develop and implement company-wide safety programs, policies, and training.
- Oversee workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and incident reporting.
- Administer leave of absence programs (FMLA, statutory, and company-specific).
Benefits Program Oversight
- Manage health, dental, vision, retirement, and wellness programs.
- Partner with vendors to ensure competitive, compliant, and cost-effective benefits.
- Provide employee guidance on benefits enrollment, questions, and claims.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including 5+ years in a leadership capacity.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, printing, or production-based operations strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, recruiting, and payroll practices.
- Proven success developing employee programs that drive engagement and retention.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification is a plus.
