Director of Human Resources - ON-SITE

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for all aspects of Human Resources management, including talent acquisition and associate relations. Focus on managing the recruitment function for The Cato Corporation, ensuring optimal staffing levels to support productivity and business goals. Directly responsible for pre-employment, recruitment, and relocation of all new hires. This position will have a specific focus on being a resource to each of the business unit heads.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guide the development and implementation of associate-related programs and processes that will both support the legal and business requirements of Cato, drive a culture of success, and reinforce the attractiveness of Cato as an employer.
- Establish credibility throughout the organization with management and the associates to be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues.
- Advise Cato management regarding recruitment strategies and work closely with the hiring manager to meet staffing needs within budget restraints.
- Source candidates, conduct pre-screening of candidates to present to the hiring manager, initiate the interview process, coordinate interview trips/meetings, and monitor all new hire processes for compliance with company hiring procedures.
- Make recommendations for hires, salary levels, and relocation needs.
- Facilitate relocation of new hires and their families. Work with carriers and temporary housing agencies to ensure a smooth transition.
- Facilitate contract negotiations with all HR vendors and present finalized terms for senior management approval.
- Manage the Company-wide Leave Request process with the support of the Human Resource Business Partners.
- Maintain and enforce the Company’s Handbook, including Human Resources-related policy and procedures.
- Support special projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
College degree in Business/Human Resources or related field required with specialized training in Recruiting.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum seven years of experience leading a Human Resources function with at least five years in Recruitment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Demonstrated HR leadership in a business with multi-site, multi-state operations, and the appropriate industry experience, preferably in the retail field.
- Strong HR background with knowledge of recruiting, compensation, benefits, organization development, associate relations, investigations, and training.
- Knowledge of employment law, ERISA, Title VII, payroll, OSHA, FLSA, FMLA, ACA, ADA, and other laws and regulations.
- Proven leadership and collaboration abilities with a strong track record in driving successful change initiatives.
- Strong/demonstrated leadership, team building, positive interpersonal and relationship development skills. Coaching and mentoring skills are a must.
- An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
