Position Summary
The Director of Human Resources (DHR) is a strategic executive leader responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of the hospital’s overall mission, vision, and strategic direction. As a member of the senior leadership team, the DHR oversees all aspects of human capital management, including workforce planning, talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, compliance, performance management, leadership development, and organizational culture.
In a smaller hospital environment, the DHR plays both a strategic and hands-on role, ensuring HR operations are efficient, compliant, and aligned with high-quality patient care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic LeadershipDevelop and implement a comprehensive HR strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team.
- Lead workforce planning initiatives to ensure adequate staffing across clinical and non-clinical departments.
- Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, inclusion, and service excellence.
- Talent Acquisition & Workforce DevelopmentOversee recruitment strategies to attract qualified healthcare professionals in a competitive market.
- Develop retention initiatives to reduce turnover and improve employee satisfaction.
- Implement leadership development and succession planning programs.
- Partner with department leaders to identify workforce training needs.
- Employee Relations & CultureFoster a positive work environment that supports collaboration and high performance.
- Lead conflict resolution, investigations, and corrective action processes.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and promote ethical workplace standards.
- Guide engagement surveys and action planning initiatives.
- Compensation, Benefits & ComplianceOversee compensation structures to remain competitive within the New Mexico healthcare market.
- Administer employee benefits programs and vendor relationships.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and healthcare workforce regulations.
- Maintain accreditation and regulatory readiness related to workforce requirements.
- HR Operations & SystemsManage HRIS systems, payroll oversight, and personnel records.
- Develop and monitor HR metrics and dashboards to inform executive decision-making.
- Prepare and manage the HR department budget.
Qualifications
- Education:Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field required.
- (Preferred) Master’s degree in Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field required.
- Experience:Minimum 8–10 years of progressive HR leadership experience.
- At least 3–5 years in a senior HR leadership role, within healthcare or hospital settings.
- Experience in smaller or community hospital environments strongly preferred.
- Certifications (Preferred):SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent senior-level HR certification.
