This position can be based in Homer or Seldovia, with travel between Homer and Seldovia as needed.
The Human Resources (HR) Director has both administrative and strategic responsibilities, helping to plan and administer important functions such as staffing, recruitment, personnel policies, compensation and benefits. The HR Director oversees compliance of local, state, and federal regulations for HR.
Hours:Monday through Friday, 35 to 40 hours per week
Salary Range:Starting at $85K and up, depending on experience

What You'll Do
- Promote SVT mission by integrating Tribal Values into the administration of all HR functions.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute HR programs including but not limited to compensation, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, occupational health and safety, training and development.
- Full-cycle recruiting (evaluate staffing needs, recruit and screen candidates, coordinate interviewing, selection, hiring, coordination of onboarding.)
- Maintain personnel records utilizing cloud-based HRIS program and hard copy back-ups
- Benefits administration including benefit orientations. Process enrollments, changes, terminations, coverage continuations, and COBRA in a timely manner.
- Conduct work place investigations in compliance with SVT policy.
- Tracking, recording, and administering FMLA, disability, and military leave.
- Reports, maintains and monitors workers compensation program and files, including continuous follow-up on open cases.
- Coordinates performance management efforts for Seldovia Village Tribe by working with supervisors to effectively administer performance management policies and procedures
- Manage termination of employees including offboarding paperwork, notifications to staff responsible for offboarding duties, and exit interviews.
- Research and participate in salary surveys, research market relevant compensation data, and provide data as requested to supervisors and directors.
- Administers Drug Free Workplace policy, to include drug testing program and staff education.
- Assists with employee relations through coaching and counseling of supervisors and employees, facilitation of conflict resolution, and risk mitigation.
- Support supervisors in disciplinary actions, meetings, or concerns. Attend conversations as needed.
- Conduct annual staff satisfaction surveys
- Stay informed of industry news, trends, best practices, and new technologies.
- Regularly participate in meetings/committees
- Participate and contribute to all organization strategic planning, change and project management.
- Other duties as assigned
- Be able to travel as needed to other communities including to and from Homer / Seldovia by small airplane and sometimes by boat when airplanes are on weather hold. Travel is a day trip, but inclement weather may require an overnight stay. SVT provides lodging and meal stipend for overnight stay due to weather.
What You'll Need
- Associates Degree in Business Management, Human Resources, or related field. Will accept work equivalent.
- 2+ years related experience, required
- One of the following qualifications or higher-level preferred: SHRM-CP, HRCI-PHR, or THRP certifications
