Summary
The
Human Resource Manager is responsible for leading people strategy execution and delivering consistent, compliant, and high-quality HR support across U.S. and Canadian operations. This role oversees the HR Department and team members ensuring strong manager capability, effective employee relations practices, and risk mitigation across the employee lifecycle. Acting as a strategic partner to business leaders, the HR Manager drives operational excellence, supports workforce planning and organizational change, and strengthens leadership effectiveness. This role partners closely with Payroll, Finance, Legal, and Operations to ensure alignment across compensation, compliance, and reporting functions, while maintaining a strong focus on employee experience, regulatory compliance, and scalable people processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
People Strategy & Leadership Partnership
- Execute people strategies aligned with business objectives, workforce planning, and organizational growth initiatives.
- Partner with executive and operational leaders to support organizational design, talent planning, and change management efforts.
- Use people data and trends to inform leadership decisions and proactively identify areas of risk or opportunity.
- Support process improvements and system enhancements that strengthen scalability and operational efficiency.
Manager Capability & Team Effectiveness
- Coach and advise managers on performance management, employee development, conflict resolution, and team dynamics.
- Strengthen manager capability through training, documentation, and consistent HR guidance.
- Support leadership development and succession planning initiatives.
HR Team Leadership & Performance
- Oversee delivery of HR advisory services across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, performance management, and offboarding.
- Lead, coach, and develop the HR Advisor team to ensure high-quality, consistent service delivery.
- Establish performance expectations, service standards, and escalation processes across HR functions.
- Monitor workload distribution, ensure appropriate coverage, and drive continuous improvement within the HR team.
- Foster accountability, professional growth, and strong team performance.
Employee Relations, Leave & Workers’ Compensation
- Oversee employee relations matters, serving as an escalation point for complex or sensitive workplace issues.
- Ensure consistent interpretation and application of employment policies across jurisdictions.
- Oversee administration and compliance related to leaves of absence, accommodations, and return-to-work processes.
- Manage workers’ compensation claims and processes, ensuring regulatory compliance and appropriate case management to mitigate organizational risk.
Compliance & People Risk Mitigation
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment, wage-and-hour, leave, and workplace regulations across U.S. states and Canadian provinces.
- Identify and mitigate people-related risks through proactive policy review, training, and internal audits.
- Maintain confidentiality, data integrity, and ethical handling of employee information.
- Stay informed of regulatory changes and implement updates to policies and processes as needed.
Payroll Partnership & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Partner closely with Payroll to ensure accurate employee data, policy alignment, and smooth payroll operations.
- Collaborate with Finance and Accounting to support reporting, audits, and compensation-related initiatives.
- Support payroll governance and compliance without direct operational management of payroll processing.
HR Operations & Systems
- Partner with HR People Systems to ensure effective use of HRIS platforms and process optimization.

Qualifications

- Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly preferred
- Experience: 6+ years of progressive HR experience; including but not limited to leadership or team management experience.
- Experience supporting multi-state and Canadian operations.
- Strong background in employee relations, compliance, and workforce risk management.
- Experience managing workers’ compensation and leave of absence programs.
- Strong understanding of employment law, wage-and-hour regulations, and leave compliance requirements.
- Ability to analyze people-data and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop managers and HR team members.
- Strong risk assessment and problem-solving skills.
- Experience partnering cross-functionally with Payroll and Finance.
- Excellent communication, judgment, and decision-making skills.
- High level of discretion, confidentiality and professionalism.
- Computer Skills: Microsoft suite (core applications), Google, Slack, experience in Jira and/or other management platforms and software preferred.
- HRIS Proficiency in HR systems and tools; experience with UKG preferred
- Language Skills: Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and written
- Math Skills: Possess basic mathematical skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Travel Requirements: Occasional travel required between buildings and sites
- Ability to maintain and manage confidential information
- State regulations require all applicants must be 21 years of age or older
- ServSafe or Food Handler’s Card preferred
- Will be required to submit to a background check
- Must obtain all applicable state-required permits, licenses, and certifications

As an exempt employee
, you'll receive a competitive salary wage of $90,000-155,000/yr. paid biweekly, 11 paid holidays, 160 hours of PTO, 16 hours of VTO, 401k and fully paid health, dental and vision insurance.
