About the Role
We are a family-owned, multi-entity organization operating across agriculture, nursery production, and commercial landscaping in Idaho and surrounding states. We are seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead and manage all HR functions across the organization.
This is a hands-on HR leadership role for a strategic and operational HR professional who thrives in building and improving HR systems, recruiting processes, and people operations. The Director of Human Resources will take ownership of talent acquisition, employee relations, compliance, performance management, and HR infrastructure—not simply maintain existing processes.
Partnering closely with the ownership and senior leadership, this role will drive stronger hiring outcomes, improve workforce processes, and support a consistent company culture across multiple locations and operating companies.
Key Responsibilities:
- HR Leadership & Department Ownership
- Lead and oversee the HR function across multiple operating companies
- Take ownership of HR systems, policies, and processes, ensuring consistency where appropriate
- Serve as a trusted HR partner to ownership, general managers, and leadership
- Maintain and evolve the employee handbook and HR policies in compliance with changing employment laws
- Lead employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, documentation, and terminations
- Establish clear HR standards and help leadership apply them consistently
Recruiting & Talent Acquisition (Core Focus)
- Own and continuously improve the recruiting process for middle and upper management roles
- Actively source, screen, and evaluate candidates — beyond posting jobs
- Build systems that consistently attract higher-quality candidates
- Partner with leadership to design interview processes, scorecards, and selection criteria
- Provide clear, candid input on candidate quality and hiring decisions
- Evaluate hiring outcomes and refine recruiting strategies over time
Benefits, Payroll & Employee Support
- Serve as a liaison between employees and benefit partners (Waldo, Zion’s Health Share, Healthcues)
- Manage open enrollment and mid-year benefit changes
- Support 401(k) administration and employee education
- Serve as a primary resource for employees on benefits, Paycom, and HR systems
Compliance, Safety & Risk Management
- Oversee workers’ compensation program, including claims coordination and follow-up
- Lead internal audits (I-9, OSHA 300, etc.)
- Create and deliver monthly and quarterly safety training programs
- Monitor HR-related risk and proactively address issues before they escalate
Culture, Communication & Process Improvement
- Help define and reinforce company culture through systems, expectations, and accountability
- Improve HR workflows to reduce friction and increase clarity for managers and employees
- Lead HR meetings and company-wide communications
- Contribute to special projects and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization
What We’re Looking For
- Experience leading HR functions in a multi-location or multi-entity organization
- Experience in agriculture, construction, landscaping, manufacturing, or similar environments
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and hire leadership-level roles
- HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) helpful but not required
- Bilingual/ Spanish is preferred
- Strong judgment and decisiveness; comfortable making difficult calls
- Comfort handling employee relations and performance issues directly
- Ability to balance consistency with practical, real-world flexibility
Compensation & Benefits Philosophy
- Salary range: $105,000–$135,000 DOE
- We operate under a performance-driven compensation philosophy:
- Strong performers are rewarded through competitive salary growth
- Compensation reflects accountability, impact, and results
Full benefits package includes:
- 401(k) with employer match
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Paid time off
- Life insurance
