Job Title: Human Resources Director
Reports To: Executive Director
Supervises: HR Assistant
Position Summary
The Human Resources Director provides strategic and operational leadership for all human resources functions of a Christ-centered mission dedicated to serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness with dignity, compassion, and hope.
This position ensures that HR practices align with the organization’s Christian mission, core values, and commitment to legal compliance and best practices. The HR Director will lead and supervise one HR Assistant while developing policies, supporting staff, and cultivating a healthy, mission-driven workplace culture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with organizational mission and goals
- Advise Executive Director and leadership team on HR best practices
- Foster a positive, faith-centered organizational culture
- Lead and supervise the HR Assistant, providing training, accountability, and professional development
Recruitment & Staffing
- Oversee full-cycle recruitment for staff and volunteers
- Ensure hiring practices reflect equal opportunity principles and organizational values
- Conduct onboarding processes that integrate new hires into mission and culture
Employee Relations
- Provide guidance and coaching to managers and staff
- Address employee concerns, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes
- Lead performance evaluation processes
- Promote staff engagement, retention, and morale
Policy & Compliance
- Develop, update, and implement HR policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Maintain employee records and HRIS systems
- Oversee risk management and employment-related liability matters
Compensation & Benefits
- Manage employee benefits programs
- Oversee leave administration (FMLA, ADA accommodations, etc.)
Training & Development
- Identify staff training needs and coordinate professional development
- Provide leadership development for supervisors
- Support spiritual formation opportunities for staff
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role
- Experience supervising staff required
- Experience in nonprofit, ministry, or social services environment preferred
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR certification preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices
- Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and communication skills
- High level of discretion and confidentiality
- Strategic thinker with hands-on operational capability
- Proficient in HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite
