Position Summary
The Director of Human Resources will serve as a hands-on, strategic HR leader responsible for building and scaling the company’s HR function from the ground up. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role will balance day-to-day HR execution with the design and implementation of systems, processes, and programs that support hiring, development, engagement, and retention across a growing, multi-location workforce.
This is a player-coach role ideal for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves while creating the foundation for a larger, global organization.
Key Responsibilities
HR Leadership & Infrastructure
- Build and lead a modern HR function from an early-stage foundation, creating scalable processes, policies, and systems.
- Develop HR infrastructure that supports steady global growth (10–20 hires per year) while preserving a close-knit, family-oriented culture.
- Partner directly with the CEO and leadership team as a trusted advisor on people strategy, organizational structure, and workforce planning.
Talent Acquisition, Onboarding & Development
- Own end-to-end recruiting, onboarding, and integration of new employees across warehouse, operations, sales, and administrative roles.
- Design onboarding and training programs that help new hires ramp quickly and align with company values and expectations.
- Support manager development by providing tools, coaching, and guidance to help leaders effectively hire, develop, and retain talent.
Employee Relations & Culture
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations, addressing performance issues, conflict resolution, coaching, and corrective action with consistency and fairness.
- Help integrate new employees into a long-tenured, relationship-driven workforce while reinforcing trust and accountability.
- Champion a culture that is customer-focused, entrepreneurial, and respectful, balancing flexibility with structure.
Compliance & Multi-State / Global HR
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, with particular emphasis on California, Texas, Arizona, and the UK.
- Establish consistent HR practices across locations while accounting for regional regulatory differences.
- Oversee workplace safety, employment documentation, and record-keeping in a regulated aerospace distribution environment.
Compensation, Benefits & Performance
- Administer compensation and benefits programs, including annual reviews, merit processes, and open enrollment.
- Build and maintain performance management frameworks that are practical, fair, and aligned with company goals.
- Track HR metrics and reporting to support data-driven decisions as the organization scales.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including leadership responsibility.
- Proven experience building or significantly upgrading an HR function in a growing organization.
- Strong working knowledge of California and federal employment law; multi-state experience required, international exposure (UK) a plus.
- Comfortable operating as a hands-on HR generalist while thinking strategically about long-term infrastructure.
- Experience supporting diverse employee populations, including warehouse/distribution and professional staff.
- Strong judgment, interpersonal skills, and ability to build trust at all levels of the organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; HR certifications (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP) a plus.
