The Senior HR Manager serves as the strategic HR business partner for Return Polymers, a multi-site recycling business unit within James Hardie. Based in Ashland, Ohio, this role provides HR leadership across six sites located in Indiana, Oregon, Texas, Michigan, and two locations in Ohio. The position supports approximately 400 employees and leads a team of four HR professionals focused on engagement, support, and compliance. Reporting to the Senior HR Director, the Senior HR Manager partners closely with senior operations and functional leaders to drive people strategy, organizational effectiveness, and workforce alignment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Partner with the Senior HR Director and Return Polymers leadership team to align HR priorities with business goals.
- Serve as a trusted business partner and advisor to plant and functional leaders on organizational design, workforce planning, and talent optimization.
- Lead the HR team in delivering consistent, high-quality HR service and counsel across seven sites.
Talent Management & Leadership Development
- Partner with COEs to manage full-cycle talent management, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, succession planning, and leadership development.
- Coach site and functional leaders to strengthen leadership capability and accountability.
- Partner with OD to coordinate talent programs within the business unit to identify and develop emerging leaders and critical-skill employees.
Employee Relations & Culture
- Champion culture of safety, sustainability, and inclusion by promoting engagement and continuous improvement at every level of the organization.
- Guide complex employee relations matters, ensuring fair, consistent, and compliant practices across all sites.
- Support company engagement surveys, analyze feedback, and lead action planning to enhance employee experience and retention.
Compensation, Benefits & Workforce Analytics
- Partner with COE – Total Rewards to assess market competitiveness, internal equity, and incentive alignment with Return Polymers performance.
- Use workforce analytics to identify trends, guide decision-making, and measure the impact of HR initiatives.
- Support annual merit and incentive planning, in alignment with HR timelines.
Operational Excellence & Change Management
- Ensure HR policies, programs, and practices are effectively implemented and consistently applied across all sites.
- Partner with Operations, EHS, and Continuous Improvement teams to drive safety, productivity, and workforce stability.
- Lead or support organizational changes tied to M&A integration, process improvement, or new site development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 5 years in manufacturing operations.
- Experience leading HR in a multi-site environment with both hourly and salaried populations.
- Strong knowledge of labor and employment law, employee relations, and organizational development.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with senior leaders to drive business and people outcomes.
- Proven capability to lead, coach, and develop HR professionals.
- Proficiency with HRIS and workforce analytics tools.
