Role Description
We’re a quickly growing, 70 person team with employees and contractors across multiple states and countries and we need you to own payroll, set up scalable benefits, and streamline HR processes from day one. This is a high-impact role where accuracy, compliance, and employee experience are non-negotiable.
Human Resources
- Manage full-cycle onboarding and offboarding for employees and independent contractors, ensuring compliant identity verification, and state specific new-hire reporting.
- Administer employment contracts, offer letters, necessary tax and identity documents, and manage lifecycle documentation.
- Maintain accurate, current, and secure employee information compliant with industry best practices and regulatory requirements governing personally identifiable information.
Payroll Processing
- Process bi-weekly and monthly multi-state W2 payroll with full compliance to federal, state, and local tax laws, wage-and-hour regulations, and statutory deadlines.
- Process end-to-end payroll operations including tax withholding, garnishments, and multi-state jurisdiction setup/management with assistance from internal accounting.
- Conduct identity verification for payroll setup and maintain accurate employee tax forms.
- Process monthly independent contractor payments, including invoice validation, payment accuracy checks, and timely disbursement.
- Own commission and bonus calculations, auditability, and accurate documentation.
Benefits Administration
- Source, negotiate, implement, and manage group health, retirement, and supplemental benefit plans.
- Lead open enrollment, manage life-event changes, and maintain timely communication regarding eligibility, deadlines, and plan updates.
- Process all benefits-related documentation and maintain compliance when handling medical information.
- Reconcile monthly carrier invoices and ensure accurate payroll benefit deductions.
Who You Are
- Multi-state payroll expert with proven experience processing remote W2 employees across the U.S.
- Knowledge of federal and state payroll tax laws, withholdings, and compliance (e.g., garnishments, multi-state taxation).
- Benefits administration pro, you’ve built or scaled health, dental, vision, and retirement programs.
- Clear communicator, you translate complex payroll/benefits info into simple, helpful answers for employees and enjoy resolving personnel questions.
- Comfortable owning processes end-to-end in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
