Overview:
JLab is seeking an experienced HR Manager to support our team. This role will ensure continuity of our HR operations, including domestic and international employee support, recruitment, compliance, and employee relations. The ideal candidate is a confident HR generalist with strong California labor law knowledge and global HR experience, capable of stepping in and owning key HR functions with minimal onboarding.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee Relations:
- Act as a point of contact for employee concerns, HR policies, and procedures
- Ensure consistent application of labor laws and internal policies
- Support issue resolution and document HR-related matters
Performance Management & Development:
- Guide managers through performance feedback and evaluation processes
- Track progress on any active performance improvement plans
- Support basic training coordination as needed
Payroll & Benefits:
- Oversee timely and accurate payroll processing in coordination with Finance
- Administer benefits and 401(k) inquiries or changes
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and deadlines
HR Operations & Compliance:
- Maintain records and ensure compliance with California, federal, and international labor requirements
- Partner with leadership on ongoing HR projects, documentation, and initiatives
- Prepare handoff documentation for transition back to full-time HR manager
Talent Acquisition:
- Coordinate ongoing hiring processes, working with managers to maintain momentum on open roles
- Manage candidate communications, interviews, and offer execution
- Monitor work authorization and compliance for international candidates
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of HR management experience, including direct work in California employment law
- Proven ability to manage HR functions independently in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with international HR operations is a strong plus
- Excellent communication, discretion, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in HRIS/payroll platforms and remote collaboration tools
- PHR/SPHR certification preferred
Salary: $75,000 - $100,000
