An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced proactive Human Resources Generalist to support our U.S. corporate and Retail teams.
This role will focus on core HR functions including employee relations, compliance, performance management, training, payroll coordination, and workplace health and safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of U.S. employment law, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with leadership and staff at all levels. This is a hands-on role that provides critical support to ensure consistent HR practices and positive employee experience across the organization.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
General HR Responsibilities:
- Partner with the HR Manager and U.S. leadership team to support the organization’s human resource strategy, particularly in relation to compliance, performance management, training, and employee relations.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; review policies and practices to ensure alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of HR trends, best practices, and changes in U.S. employment laws and workplace regulations, to include labor posters.
- Support managers with performance management processes, including goal setting, feedback, and development planning.
- Liaise with HR Manager as needed for complex HR matters and escalations.
- Partner with Payroll Specialist on payroll-related requirements for support.
- Conduct exit interviews and share insights with leadership to support retention efforts
Employee Relations:
- Partner with management to resolve employee relations issues in a consistent, compliant, and timely manner.
- Work in collaboration with the HR Manager for guidance and escalation on high-risk matters ensure proper documentation and sign-off for sensitive matters.
- Respond to employee complaints and allegations of misconduct, ensuring updates are provided to HR Manager.
- Conduct fact-finding investigations and advise on appropriate actions, including disciplinary steps or development plans.
- Review and approve employee warnings and terminations related to policy violations or persistent underperformance.
- Coach managers on providing constructive feedback and conducting effective performance reviews.
Payroll & Compensation:
- Collaborate with the Payroll Manager, HR Manager and Payroll Specialist to ensure compliance with U.S. payroll practices and regulations.
- Support the annual appraisal and compensation review processes in coordination with HR Manager and Department Heads.
- Partner with the HR Manager on Analyzing compensation trends and propose base pay and incentive programs to support competitive total rewards strategy.
- Coordinate with IT to ensure access and offboarding logistics are handled appropriately.
- Notify IT & Office Manager to ensure access and staff listing is completed
Training & Development:
- Manage and coordinate annual mandatory training in collaboration with the HR Manager.
- Coordinate external training programs and maintain accurate training records.
- Present HR policy updates and training information at internal meetings as needed.
- Coordinate compliance-related training requirements.
- Ensure completion of new hire onboarding and induction training.
Workplace Health & Safety (WHS):
- Oversee Workers' Compensation claims in coordination with the organization’s insurance provider in partnership with the HR Manager.
- Implement and manage the WHS program across Head office and Retail in partnership with the HR Manager and Retail Operations team.
- Promote a safe and healthy work environment by ensuring adherence to health and safety procedures.
- Report and track workplace injuries, hazards, and illnesses in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
- Encourage safe behaviors and ensure that staff follow safety protocols and do not compromise the safety of others.
- Ensure safety equipment is used appropriately and not tampered with.
Special Projects
- Participate in special HR-related projects directed by Global Head of HR and HR Manager.
About you:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a generalist HR role.
- Experience in the fashion or retail industry is preferred
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and HR/Payroll systems.

Compensation
Zimmermann utilizes the advertised salary range as a benchmark to offer candidates competitive compensation in the market. This approach also allows for flexibility to account for differing levels of experience and to reward both performance and tenure.
