This role is located South of Boston. It can either be a part-time or full-time role depending on the candidates interest.

Engineer firm is seeking a Human Resources Manager to take ownership of payroll, benefits, and day-to-day HR functions for our 100 employees. This role is highly hands-on, supporting employees directly while ensuring compliance with payroll and healthcare regulations. In addition, the HR Manager will provide billable administrative support on client projects where payroll compliance, certified reporting, and labor documentation are required.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being closely involved in HR operations, employee support, and cultural engagement while still contributing to project success.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll, Benefits & Compliance

Administer ADP payroll for all employees.
Manage healthcare onboarding/offboarding, IRA updates, MassHealth Connector, and employee leave of absence requests.
Coordinate and lead annual open enrollment meetings for benefits.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll and employment laws.

Employee Relations & Engagement

Serve as the first point of contact for employees on HR, payroll, and benefits questions.
Develop and run employee incentive programs and recognition initiatives.
Plan and coordinate quarterly events, team-building activities, and the holiday party.
Support communication and culture-building efforts, including regular employee check-ins.

Operations & Office Support

Provide backup support to the Office Manager, assisting with administrative and operational needs.
Create and update job descriptions and support cross-training initiatives across teams.
Assist in office space planning, relocation projects, and facilities coordination as needed.

Billable Client Support

Prepare and submit certified payroll and prevailing wage reports for client projects.
Track and maintain employee certifications, safety training, and compliance documentation tied to client contracts.
Assist with recruitment and onboarding for project-specific staffing needs.
Support project teams with required HR-related reporting and client compliance audits.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
3+ years of hands-on HR, payroll, or benefits administration experience.
Strong working knowledge of ADP payroll systems.
Familiarity with healthcare, benefits, and payroll compliance regulations (Massachusetts knowledge preferred).
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to balance day-to-day HR responsibilities with client-facing billable support.
